Health Care Reform? Shout ‘em Down

Written by Ann Pietrangelo on Thursday, August 6th, 2009 in Emotional Issues, Health Care Policy, In The News, Linked Articles.

scream“Shout ‘em down.” Whether it’s a manufactured, sponsored display or an honest reaction to a particular policy, it is a scare tactic, meant to intimidate and quell true debate.

No need for facts or an exchange of ideas when you can just shout down those who have ideas contrary to your own. Make up a frightening scenario that will force grandma off to the cemetery and frame it as fact. Then shout it loud and shout it often. Fear and intimidation are powerful weapons.

Passionate disagreement on the issue is one thing. Denying others the chance to speak is another.

Myelin Repair Foundation Online

Written by Ann Pietrangelo on Wednesday, August 5th, 2009 in Extras, Linked Articles.

Myelin is the insulation that coats the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Multiple sclerosis damages myelin, causing a range of symptoms from paralysis to cognitive disorders. Finding a way to repair damaged myelin has the potential to stop MS in its tracks.

The Myelin Repair Foundation is the largest research organization focused exclusively on developing myelin repair treatments for those living with MS.

The Myelin Repair Foundation, a not-for profit organization created to address the systemic problems in medical research and commercial drug development that work against the rapid delivery of patient treatments, has been increasing its online presence.

Families affected by cancer are on the front lines of health care reform, lobbying congress and fighting for affordable and easily accessible access to health care for themselves and for future cancer patients.

Statistics show that early detection and treatment provide our best chance for survival of a cancer diagnosis. Unfortunately, far too many people are experiencing crucial delays in diagnosis and treatment.

The American Cancer Society Action Network is taking unique steps to spread the message that cancer patients need action… now, not later, even purchasing all the advertising space in a D.C. metro stop near the U.S. Capitol. This video highlights the D.C. Metro Stop Campaign:

loveMultiple sclerosis can complicate a marriage, often forcing both individuals to adjust to drastic changes in expectations or marital roles — or it can bring you even closer together. Perhaps it will do both.

Maybe MS was part of the picture prior to the relationship or maybe it was diagnosed later. Either way, it has the potential to dominate every facet of your lives. It’s easy to become a little self-absorbed when living with chronic illness and, for the spouse, it’s normal to resent MS and the impositions it imposes. The trick is not to resent each other…
