Life Interrupted: It’s Not All About Me
by Chris M. Tatevosian

Life Interrupted: It’s Not all about Me, is a candid and humble memoir about one young man’s diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis and how his ‘poor-me’ attitude cost him his marriage. Chris hopes others might learn from his mistakes to communicate more effectively and not allow disability and low self-worth to destroy relationships. Chris also writes about his faith in God, and his new wife, Jane, who he married in April of 2007.”

Am I Disabled? Are You?

Written by Mandy on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008 in Emotional Issues, Links, Symptoms.

Marriam-Webster OnLine defines the word disabled as: “incapacitated by illness or injury; also : physically or mentally impaired in a way that substantially limits activity especially in relation to employment or education”

Am I disabled? Are you? The definition sounds fairly cut and dry, but when I try to apply it to my own life, things get a little fuzzy.

Written by Mandy on Friday, July 18th, 2008 in Caregiver's Corner, Emotional Issues, Links.

I have multiple sclerosis. My husband, Jake, is a caregiver. We’re a bit uncomfortable with that term because we’re not sure that it truly applies. Someone recently suggested “care partner,” and that seems more suited to our particular situation. He knows I love him. But, sometimes, I’ve got to give a little care to the caregiver.

The MS “Tell”

Written by Mandy on Wednesday, July 16th, 2008 in Emotional Issues, Links, Symptoms.

It’s the foot wiggle. That’s my MS “tell.”

I’m not talking about the big changes brought about by MS. I’m talking about the tiny, seemingly insignificant things.

What’s your MS “tell?”

The Beach is Calling

Written by Mandy on Wednesday, July 16th, 2008 in Caregiver's Corner, Emotional Issues, Family, Links.

Caregiver Jake senses “A Shift in the Wind” and longs for few days at the beach.

Sunshine and Moonlight’s “O Sole Mio Sundays” gives a tip of the hat to our own Jake Crest, caregiver extraordinaire.

Thank you to all the caregivers, who do what they can to ease our burdens. And thank you, Sunshine, for your kind words.

Disability and Perseverance

Written by Mandy on Saturday, July 12th, 2008 in Emotional Issues, Links.

There was a brief news item the other day that captured my attention and reminded me of the heroes among us. Their circumstances strain the imagination. Few among us can even begin to comprehend the world through their eyes, yet they inspire us to appreciate our own gifts.

Is it Possible that Rip Van Winkle had MS?

Written by Mandy on Tuesday, July 8th, 2008 in Links, Symptoms.

The recent sharepost by Dr. Gross, “Fatigue and Sleepiness in Multiple Sclerosis”, couldn’t have come at a better time for me. After a month of high energy, I just recently began to slide back into the clutches of fatigue. The first day that it hit again, I tried to ignore it, even though I felt as though my body weight had tripled. The second day, I couldn’t ignore it, but I tried to pretend that it wasn’t so. By the third day, fatigue was winning. Sitting at my keyboard around 3:00 p.m., I felt my eyes closing even while I continued to type. My head seemed so much heavier than my neck could possibly hold, and the fog came rolling in. I thought I’d just lie down for a moment. I didn’t even recall my head hitting the pillow when I woke up t…

Written by Mandy on Monday, July 7th, 2008 in Links, State of Health Care.

There’s a lot of confusion when it comes to COBRA. What are the benefits, and who is eligible? COBRA stands for Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, but that doesn’t make it any easier to comprehend. Continue…

Will MS Break Your Family Budget?

Written by Mandy on Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008 in Family, In The News, Links, State of Health Care.

The state of the economy is front and center in virtually every newspaper and newscast. The mortgage meltdown, stock market troubles, job losses, and increasing costs of everything from food to fuel are impossible to ignore. These are trying times for the family finances. Health care is a major budgetary item and can take quite a bite, but if someone in your household lives with a chronic condition, such as multiple sclerosis, that bite could be a whopper. Continue…

Caffeine for MS: Dare to Dream!

Written by Mandy on Tuesday, July 1st, 2008 in In The News, Links.

I do adore a good cup of coffee… and it definitely would be an easier weapon in the battle against MS than daily injections. Oh, say it’s so!
